In the unit they carry out the following types of medical activity:

In-patient medical treatment and out-patient medical treatment of adult population.

  Surgical treatment of :
  • cornea diseases;
  • crystalline lens diseases;
  • traumas;
  • retina diseases;
  • myopia;
  • appendage of eye diseases;
  • neoplasms.

All operations are performed using microscopes, on the highest state-of-the-art level.

In the unit the following operations are performed :

  1. On account of cataract:

  • extracapsular extraction of cataract;
  • extracapsular extraction of cataract with implantation of intraocular lens;
  • intracapsular extraction of cataract;
  • extraction of the lens from the anterior chamber;
  • dissection of the secondary cataract;
  • extraction of traumatical cataract;
  • extracapsular extraction of cataract coupled with the antiglaucomatous operation;
  • phacoemulsification of cataract.

For implantation they use various modifications of IOLs produced by leading world-scale manufacturers.

  2. On account of retinal detachment:

  • circlage;
  • filling sclera with the silicone bundle;
  • lamellar resection of sclera;
  • diatermocoagulation;
  • lasercoagulation.

  3. On account of strabismus:

  • recession;
  • resection of muscle.

  4. In myopia (as progressive myopia prevention):

  • meridional scleroplasty;
  • tunnel scleroplasty;
  • refractional operations (keratotomy).

  5. Keratoplasty in corneal leukoma and corneal dystrophy:

  • layerwise;
  • subtotal;
  • total.

  6. Operations on account of benign and malignant neoplasms (various operations depending on localization).

  7. Eyelids operations.

  8. Operations on account of traumatical injuries of eyes:

  • primary surgical d-bridement of corneoscleral injuries;
  • diascleral extraction of foreign bodies from eyes;
  • extraction of foreign bodies from the lens, anterior chamber, deep layers of cornea;
  • enucleation of eye including stump formation;
  • PSD (primary surgical d-bridement) of appendages of eye injuries.

  9. Operations on account of vitreous humor pathology:

  • anterior and posterior vitrectomy.

Before the operation the patient is examined by an anesthetist to select the best kind of anesthesia; professional advice of a therapeutist and neurologist is also provided.

  In the unit the following diagnostic techniques are used:

  • direct and indirect opthtalmoscopy;
  • skiascopy;
  • biomicroscopy;
  • perimetry;
  • exoophthalmometry;
  • echography;
  • echobiometry;
  • electrodiaphanoscopy;
  • tonometry;
  • gonioscopy;
  • chromatic sensitivity test.

  The following manipulations are performed :

  • para-bulbar and retrobulbar introduction of medications under the conjunctiva;
  • drip-feed and jet-stream intravenous instillation;
  • intramuscular and subcutaneous injections;
  • lachrymal ducts irrigation;
  • para-vasal blockade;
  • eye drops instillation, ointments putting;
  • local iodine cauterization of cornea;
  • palpebral conjunctiva scraping.

  2. Consultative reception of out-patients.
