      The paid services department of the Voronezh Regional Clinical Ophthalmologic Hospital (VRCOH) was established in January 2004. The main purpose of the department is introduction of up-to-the-minute techniques of ophthalmic diseases diagnosing and treatment. Thorough computer diagnostics helps determine the majority of ophthalmic diseases at the earliest stages: glaucoma, cataract, diseases of retina, cornea etc. The process of ophthalmic examination is absolutely painless.

      At the present time the eximer-laser correction is considered by leading ophthalmologists to be the most effective and safe way of treating such diseases as myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism. LASIK operations are performed with the NIDEK ÅÑ-5000 unit equipped with NAVEX – system giving an opportunity to minimize the danger of complications.

      Laser technologies are also used for treatment of various retinal diseases, first of all – impairments resulting from diabetes. The early diagnosing retinal impairments means a lot for proper treatment of ophthalmic manifestations caused by diabetes because the efficiency of treatment and preservation of high keenness of eye-sight depends on it.

      The most effective and least traumatic method of cataract treatment is the phaco-emulsification technique with implanting a collapsing (folding) IOL, – the technique universally recognized by leading ophthalmologist all over the world. At our clinic the phaco-emulsification technique has been used since 2001.

       The essence of the technique is that the crystalline lens by means of ultrasound is transformed into emulsion and extractåd from the capsular sac through the self-sealing microsection [2.8 mm] on the eye cornea periphery. A folded intraocular lens is introduced into the left capsule. There it is unfolded, self-centers and gets its initial shape. To protect the eye inner structures during the operation special protective viscoelastic materials are used which accelerate the process of tissues healing and return of vision. The operation of this type usually lasts about half an hour and the eye bandage is removed the next day. The advantage of the phacoemulsification technique is that it makes possible to consider all peculiarities of the patients: age, ophthalmic health, the degree of the disease severity, life pattern and habits, the patient’s individual and professional vision requirements.

      In the only one of its kind specialized ophthalmologic physiotherapeutic department a total complex of eye diseases treatment is carried out by physical methods. We use both traditional methods of treatment, such as electro- and phonophoresis of medicinal agents, therapeutic massage, heat therapy, and up-to-the-minute techniques – electro- and laser puncture, magnetotherapy, color impulse photo-ophthalmostimulation. There was introduced and is being widely used the video-computer system “Ambliocor” which makes it possible to recover visual functions in both children and adults by means of bioelectric activity of the brain visual centers correction.

       All our doctors are the specialists of highest qualification which are masters of modern diagnostic techniques and treatment of ophthalmic diseases.
